The Non-Fiction Character Wheel is a graphic organizer that can be used in the analysis of any non-fiction character (including historical figures, biography studies, leaders, etc.) Using the graphic organizer, students will develop the ability to analyze a non-fiction character’s personality through their relationships, conflicts, achievements, actions, perceptions, and quotes. Additionally, students will practice citing evidence from the text to support analysis and to infer internal characteristics, traits, and actions of a character.
This activity may also be used to help students identify how non-fiction characters change over time by through analysis of their relationship, conflicts, etc. Furthermore, students may use the attached follow up writing activity to apply information from their analysis and consider how understanding character expands a reader’s comprehension of text.
