This download includes the "Non-Fiction Enrichment/Choice Cafe Menu" . In this menu students will have the opportunity to complete an assignment of their choice after reading a non-fiction article or book. This menu is intended for higher level learners, but could be altered and used with on-level learners. Research shows that a great way to differentiate for higher level learners is to provide them with choice . In addition, providing students with more open-ended tasks allows for more critical thinking and doesn't put a "ceiling" on their learning. The "Non-Fiction Enrichment/Choice (Cafe) Menu" provides students with open-ended tasks to show their understanding of their reading while also providing them with choice. In addition to providing students with a choice of higher level activities (the entrees), students will also have the opportunity to choose an "appetizer", which will provide them with the opportunity to choose a Middle-level task to include with their assignment. This portion was added to the menu to provide students a way to show teachers their basic understanding of the Non-fiction piece before preceding with the higher-level assignment (the entree). If you wish to have a rubric for all assignments, Google "All purpose product rubric", and that should give you some options. I didn't include a rubric with this menu due to the fact that I provided the teacher who requested this menu with a rubric that I found in another resource.
