I have used this worksheet to facilitate Non-Fiction practice in the high school English classroom. However, it could easily be used in a variety of subject areas.
Each week, students find an article of their choice or use an article provided to them. Then, they use this worksheet to delve deeper into non-fiction analysis. They provide summaries, analyze quotes, etc. This format is easy to use and accessible.
The assignment is easy to differentiate because students can choose articles based on ability level. The first week that you use this product, it is helpful to model it and do a collaborative assignment. Then, students will be able to complete independently each week. In my experience, student writing skills and analytical skills have increased exponentially.
Each Friday, at the start of class, we have a discussion about each student's articles, where they can share what they read and what they learned.
