This lesson addresses many standards related to understanding and discussing non-fiction text, but it primarily focuses on standard RI.3.7, which asks that students use information gained from illustrations, like maps or photographs, and the words, to demonstrate understanding of the text. I found students are always tested on this standard, but often don't have enough practice using the skills they need to master it. The book I chose is engaging because most students love to read about mummies, but you can use this lesson plan as a reference and change the book to suit your students. All components are included in the lesson so it can be used during a formal observation. You can modify it anyway you like. There is a picture of the anchor chart that you can make yourself as well.
