Product Description
This set of 28 cards with Dewey numbers, words, and pictures will provide a fun way to introduce your students to the non-fiction section of the library. These cards use simple words and popular categories, like jokes, frogs, bugs, and magic.
Your students can work individually or in teams to find the matching card on the non-fiction book shelf. Or they can match the card to a book with the same Dewey number. Print them on colorful card stock and laminate them for use year after year.
I only used whole numbers, no decimals, on these cards to make them easier for younger students to use and understand.
At our school, I used these cards to create a scavenger hunt with first grade students so that they could become familiar with the non-fiction section of our school library before choosing a non-fiction book to check out. This was the kick-off for a study of non-fiction text features.
You can see photos of this scavenger hunt in action on my blog: Library Learners.
Help your students to explore the non-fiction shelves with this engaging scavenger hunt activity!
[Note to buyers: There is a separate product in my store that includes QR codes on the cards. If you want QR codes, buy that product instead of this one!]
Here's what customers said about this product:
"The kids and I all love scavenger hunts! Thank you so much for a great one!" (Thank you, Kim!)
"This is a fun activity to use! I used it with 1st and 2nd graders to help introduce the non-fiction section. I also ended up using it with 3rd and 4th grade students as a fun review group activity. (I had 3rd and 4th graders write a short review, or summary, about the book selected from that section.) All grades loved this! Thank you!" (Thank you, Alicia P.!)
"Perfect for my second graders and third graders who are still learning Dewey. These cards were also the PERFECT size for little hands and eyes." (Thank you, Buyer!)
