NON-FICTION Literature Circles????? Yes, you can continue to do literature circles, even with non-fiction texts!
A Detective Theme inspired Non-Fiction Literature Circles packet that can be used throughout the school year, or can be used for one text or one quarter. I use different Literature Circle themes each quarter so my students are always highly engaged in their Literature Circle assignments!
Just think! Your kids can have the following roles:
I love using Non-Fiction Literature Circles in my classroom, but I have found that as the year progresses, my students get a little bored with the same job sheet format! I created these for students to use while reading one text (I am creating other themes as well).
I put one of each form into a three prong folder and the students must rotate jobs and complete one of each sheet by the time they end the book. There are some weeks when they combine two shorter jobs together (like glossary and bibliographer). They have to plan out the pages they will be reading for the entire text and record them in the chart provided so everyone knows their assignments!
Using themes for each book has really increased my students' engagement and interest in the Literature Circles in our classroom! I hope you have success as well!
