SQ3R is a helpful reading comprehension mnemonic--
S= Survey the text
Q= Question about the text
R= Read the text (using reading strategies like visualization, main idea/details, author's purpose, inferences, making connections, etc.)
R= Recite the text (take notes, highlight key parts, answer questions)
R= Review the text throughout the week (study skills)

Students create paper toolboxes to store their reading comprehension tools. Each reading tool is pictured with a description of a reading strategy.
The tools are listed with strategies on full pages. For smaller versions, print multiple copies per sheet.
Use to introduce comprehension strategies, and allow students to reference their toolboxes for independent practice. These also may be used as colorful classroom posters!
-Paper toolbox foldable template with directions
-5 posters describing tools correlated to reading comprehension strategies (Survey=Goggles, Question=Screwdrivers, Read=Construction Book, Recite=Pick, Review=Hammer) and descriptions on how to use them
-Name tags (two choices) to glue on front of toolboxes
