This download includes five practices of identifying text structure in non-tiction passages. It offers non-fiction passages with graphic organizers to help in understanding the logical connections made in the text. The passages have a science theme about fossils and can be used to integrate science into your reading instruction. These practices can be used as guided reading, during small group instruction, with partners, or independently. This product also includes printable posters to describe the 5 types of non-fiction text structure. These practice passages are aligned to common core standards of making logical connections in texts through description, sequence, compare and contrast, cause and effect, and problem/solution. They are appropriate for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.
