Within this document, you will find booklets for non-fiction authors; The original booklet includes:
• A Cover Page
• An Introduction Page
• Three teaching Pages
• A Conclusion Page
To help scaffold students as they learn to write non-fiction books, the first copy of the booklet includes an explanation page (with sentence stems to help for some) for each inside page.
To help scaffold students as they develop general writing skills, I included a small checklist on every page. My students use this to help self-assess their basic writing skills. The checklist includes: finger spacing, neat handwriting, punctuation, & capitalization to start sentences.
If you find either scaffold to be unnecessary for some or all of your students, you may choose to use any of the other booklet options within this document. The other options include:
2. The booklet without the explanation pages.
3. The booklet without the checklists on each page
4. The booklet without the explanation pages & without the checklist
As I continue in my non-fiction unit, I make copies of the inside teaching pages to put together a book with an introduction, five teaching pages, and a conclusion page to make a longer booklet that will challenge my quick workers. At the end of this document, you will find some bonus pages:
• A table of contents page for a 5-page booklet
• A table of contents for a 7-page booklet
• A Glossary page
Whichever pages you choose to use; we hope you find them to be helpful!
Happy teaching & happy learning.
