Grade one students first trace their foot onto construction paper with a partner. Then students explore the length of their feet using non-standard objects. Lastly, students compare their feet to a peer's foot to see whose is longer or shorter. Once complete, foot cutouts can be pasted to the bottom of the page and put up on a bulletin board for a fun display called "We are learning one step at a time!" This activity marries nicely with the similar activity designed for grade two, if you teach a split grade, or need to modify for students on an IEP.
