This writing task gives students a unique opportunity to research one of our fabulous 50 states! Instead of writing your typical research report, students begin with research, but transform that research into a creatively crafted personal narrative diary entry. The diary entry is written from a child’s point of view while living in their home state.
My students have always enjoyed the opportunity to be creative with the research they gathered instead of doing a routine non-fiction report. Creating a diary entry allows students to become invested in their writing and to show off their writing voice.
