What educators are saying

Used this resource for several scientific texts and it really helped my students understand what they were reading more in depth!
I have used these with informational texts before, and it went great. I am even more excited to start using these with Scholastic next year.

This resource for exploring non-fiction was originally designed to be used with classroom magazines, such as Scholastic News and Time For Kids. However, over the years I found that these activities worked great with just about ANY non-fiction text. This Non-Fiction Toolkit includes activities for teaching text features and text structures, and includes a variety of graphic organizers to use with non-fiction texts. This resource includes the following activities for teaching and exploring non-fiction:

• Non-Fiction Reading Folder labels

• My Collection of Informational Text Features

• Find the Features

• Informational Text Structures Reference Sheet

• What’s the Structure?

• Sequence of Events

• Cause & Effect

• Problem & Solution

• Compare & Contrast

• Close Reading

• What’s the Big Idea?

• Making Connections

• Get to the Point

• Words to Know

• Sum It Up

• Text Feature in the Spotlight

• In My Opinion

• Get the Idea with 5Ws

• Four, Three, Two, One!
