We've all seen a book report "sandwich"...but one for nonfiction? Here it is! A creative Common Core book report project for nonfiction readers. Students in grades 3 to 5 love these worksheets! Layer by layer, they build the elements of a book report.
Perfect for a picnic themed bulletin-board display...I even provide the ants!

We want to encourage students to think deeply about the nonfiction texts they read. We also want to have creative, fun ways for students to demonstrate their understanding and celebrate the completion of a nonfiction text. This nonfiction book report sandwich fills the plate!
I include a scoring rubric and small standards posters for you to include with your bulletin board display.
When completed, this sandwich will hold evidence that students can:
~ Determine the main idea of a nonfiction text
~ Find important facts that support their identification of the main idea
~ Expand their vocabulary by learning new words found in the text
~ Formulate an opinion based on facts learned in the text
Introduce the nonfiction book report sandwich to the whole class, modeling each part of the sandwich. Demonstrate with samples what is expected. When they are finished with their sandwiches, you can staple them to a paper plate on a bulletin board decorated with a plastic red & white checked table cloth and lines of paper ants.
Title for bulletin board: "Main Dish: Main Idea!" Have fun!
