This product will help your students learn about Dewey Decimal call numbers for nonfiction books!
The resource consists of ten pizza slices that you can print, cut, and laminate to make a "Nonfiction Pizza," with one slice representing each 100s division in the nonfiction section of the library. The product includes three pizza toppings that belong on each slice. For example, there is a pizza slice labeled "500s," and three toppings that go on the slice - "Plants," "Chemistry," and "Biology."
There are a total of 10 pizza slices and 30 toppings included, plus a page of "blank" toppings in case you would like to write in any of your own!
These versatile materials can be used for several different exciting activities for library students. You can print out multiple copies of the packet to create a whole class activity where groups race to see which group can assemble their pizza in the shortest amount of time with the most accuracy. You could also print out just one copy of the packet and have a small group of students compete to see who can assemble two or three slices with the most accuracy. You could also print out one set as a library center for one or two students to complete as a puzzle. There are so many fun ways to use these materials in your school library!
This resource includes an answer key that can be used to check the students' slices once they are complete. There is also a pizza-themed chart / handout that gives examples of subjects that can be found in each 100s division.
I recommend that all materials be printed out on card stock and laminated before the first time you use them.
