I am excited to share with you one of my favorite strategies for teaching Non-Fiction Text! Each passage in this packet was chosen with care to fit the needs of second and third graders. The passages get more challenging as the packet continues. Each passage also contains reading comprehension questions that accompany that specific passage, as well as, a fluency monitoring sheet for running records. The first two passages walk students through the Close Reading process in the form of questions, and then students close read text following the steps and guidelines provided on the page. I use Close Reading as one of my interventions in RTI, but all students can benefit from learning how to take a closer look at text.
