This unit uses Cognitive Process Of Instruction to teach the Elements of a Nonfiction Text [Structure]
This lesson is a wonderful starting place to ensure your students create a framework of identifying what nonfiction is and how it can be identified. With this framework, students can build upon it and begin to both analyze and write nonfiction pieces.
The framework has plans for Low Leveled and High Leveled Students and can be used for grades 7-11.
This Unit covers Steps 1-4 of the CPOI model - Steps 5-7 are described within. You do not need to be familiar with COPI to use this unit and have it be successful in your classroom as long as you follow the Teaching Plan precisely as it is written according to the level of your students. It is important to note that the Teacher Plan MUST be followed exactly as it is written in order for students to code this concept into their long-term memory network.
Please feel free to email any questions you may have while using this plan. We will be happy to offer guidance and suggestions.
