Product Description
These Non Fiction Mini Passages will have your students understanding how to infer in no time! Give it a try!

After creating the fiction inferring packet (Making Inferences) , I wanted to expose my students to inferring with non-fiction. I chose 11 interesting and influential people and wrote about them in a way my students could draw conclusions and make inferences.
The following influential people are covered in this set:

• Ruby Bridges
• Abraham Lincoln
• Susan B. Anthony
• Amelia Earhart
• Benjamin Franklin
• Thomas Jefferson
• Helen Keller
• Martin Luther King, Jr.
• Sacagawea
• Betsy Ross
• George Washington

About This Packet

There are 11 high interest mini passages with 3 differentiated inferring graphic organizers for each.

Because I know how busy teachers are, I have provided a key for each passage.

Differentiation –
Each passage has graphic organizer
partially filled.
One with “This probably means…” (easier)
One with “What the Text Says” (harder)
This way you can choose the level of difficulty you want to work on.
Finally, one graphic organizer is blank (hardest) allowing the students to fill it in completely.
You will be able to see if they are mastering the skill if they can fill this organizer
in without help.
Try out the preview and see what you think!
This may be too difficult for first graders. You could use it as a read aloud and do together as a class or give it to the ones reading above level.

key words: inferring, nonfiction, non-fiction, making inferences, famous people, passages, differentiated, graphic organizers
