Have literature circle groups read nonfiction articles, then handout one of four sets of questions or all of them. Sets are set up to encourage Expressing Personal Opinion, Author's Craft, Personal Connections, and Identifying Specifics. Each set contains 8 varied focus points written as questions. You can either assign specific questions to each group or allow students to select their own questions. This way they participate in their own differentiation.
Students can answer the questions by either completing a chart showing ONE answer for each category or a sheet showing all 8 questions. This approach enables the teacher to make a quick assessment, or allows students to continue to build answers while they reflect on the nonfiction article.
