The Nonfiction Reading Passport is designed to engage students in reading across the nonfiction section of the library. Many of my students have lexiles that far exceed the content of the books in the fiction section of the library. This year long activity will help them to locate books on their level in nonfiction. Hopefully they will develop an interest in this underutilized area of the library!
This passport includes a page for 000-900 with the name of the section, a definition, and examples of the topics you will find there. There is a space for students to record information on two separate books. It also includes the following pages:
• Front Cover- one version in color and one in black and white
• Two student information page options: one with a thumbprint box, the other
with a self-portrait box
• A student direction page
• A random cool facts recording page
• 2 reading wish list pages for recommendations from friends
• A reflection page for the end of the year
• An inspiring reading quote
I intend to use this passport with my 5th graders over the course of the school year. I'd love to hear how you intend to use it!
My 3rd and 4th graders will be completing my Fiction Reading Passport
. The Fiction Reading Passport takes students on a journey through the genres.
If your students need more work in Dewey, I'd love for you to check out my other materials to support learning in this area.
