Product Description
In this lesson, students will learn how to summarize the main idea of a nonfiction article. The lesson requires students to work in groups to summarize an article. (I use current events / news articles, or you can check out NEWSELA.COM for lexile leveled articles).

After summarizing the article, students will be required to use their classmates' summaries to further slim down what has been written. In so doing, students will learn about the value of effective summaries and paraphrases. The lesson loops in a brief conversation on plagiarizing, an essential aspect of learning how to properly paraphrase.
