This graphic organizer works as the first step in teaching students the 5-finger recall strategy for summarizing nonfiction text. The visual helps students remember what information is paired with each finger. Use the boxes for students to write their notes, then encourage them to practice the strategy orally, referring to their notes if needed. I use this graphic organizer with my students with learning disabilities and am excited about how well it helps them make the connection.
Two pages are included in this document - the first includes lined boxes for students' notes, the second has the hand graphic and the labels, but no boxes, so you can use post-its on it or use it simply as a visual reminder for students to reference.
