Nonfiction Text Features are the features that help a reader navigate a Nonfiction Text more easily. Knowing how each of these features work helps students locate information quickly and better understand what they are reading.
Once students have a basic understanding of text features, they can use this activity to practice what they have learned using an informational text. Using old copies of Scholastic News, Storyworks, National Geographic Kids, or Time for Kids, students look for as many text features as they could find. Students cut out and glue the various text features onto the page. When students cannot find a particular text feature, they can illustrate it themselves!
