This product contains 3 Nonfiction Text Feature "Missions" Each mission will take between 45 minutes and an hour.
The first mission involves students going on a "scavenger hunt" for nonfiction text features in magazines and newspapers.
The second mission involves the teacher whiting out text features or retyping a 1 page article. Students will read this article with a partner and decide what text features are missing and discuss how text features would help them to read the article. The class will then have a discussion about nonfiction text features.
The third mission involves each student reading any nonfiction text. They will work independently to find and explain the importance of nonfiction text features. Students will then pair up and compare their thoughts about nonfiction text features. Finally, the class can have a discussion about which text features they found and why they are important. This last mission can also be used as an assessment.
