Here is a great way to help introduce your students to nonfiction text features and writing. What better topic to write about than themselves!
Each page has a heading at the top that tells the reader what that page is mostly about.
Page 1 ... My Family. Students draw a picture of their family and label each member.
Page 2 ... My Face. Here is where your students will show a close up. First have them draw a picture of themselves in the large box. Have them draw their entire body. Then, in the circle, have them draw a close up of their face.
Page 3 ... My Favorites. This page has a chart for your students to illustrate their favorite color, food and game. Then complete the sentences to tell about the information in the chart.
Page 4 ... My Friends. This page is to show how captions tell about the illustration. Have the students illustrate something they like to do with their friends. On the lines below the box, have them write what they are doing with their friend in the illustration.
Page 5 ... My Likes/Dislikes ... On this page students will illustrate something that they like and something they do NOT like. Then they write about each using bold words... “I like to play on the swings. I do NOT like to eat spinach.”
