This flipbook featuring five nonfiction text features (table of contents, photographs, captions, headings, and charts). Students use the flipbook and identify examples of each features with a given nonfiction text and explain h ow the feature helps with understanding the book's topic. It is best used in a small group setting where the teacher can scaffold instruction as needed and/or supervise use. However, once students have an understanding of these features, it could also be moved into a literacy station.
For additional resources for nonfiction text, check out the resource below which includes powerpoint presentations for modeling, anchor charts for instruction, graphic organizers, task cards, and a project.
