Are you looking for an engaging way to introduce your students to nonfiction text features and improve their comprehension skills? Working on questioning skills to set a purpose for reading? This product addresses these key reading skills in an engaging, rigorous format for intermediate grades. Just print and you're reading to go. Works great for sub plans, too!
Included in this product is a 4 page original article about owls, along with websites for further research. The article involves students in meaningful and interesting text as they learn how to read nonfiction for understanding. Students use the nonfiction text graphic organizers to preview the article, ask questions about the topic and then read to answer their questions. Perfect way to teach how to read student textbooks! Works great for CLOSE READING lessons, too!
Use the included flip-able booklet to include in your INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK or use as a separate activity. Students record examples of each feature they find in the text and create their own glossary and index to show mastery of the concepts.
Finally, students can respond to what they read with writing. Instructions are included in a student-friendly handout for writing cinquains, acrostic wraps and haikus, 3 great poetic forms for using with nonfiction texts.
