An important step in learning to read nonfiction texts is to understand nonfiction features and how they help us as readers.
This activity book includes 12 different nonfiction features including:
types of print
table of contents
There is an activity page for each nonfiction feature included in this activity book.
Please also look for my SmartBoard product titled "Features of Nonfiction Texts" that introduces each feature, gives examples of the features, and explains how each feature helps us as readers. (See link below)
I teach these features over a few weeks span in my first grade classroom. I focus on one feature per day during this unit. I use the SmartBoard activity file to introduce each feature and to show several examples of the features. Next, we use our Features of Nonfiction Texts Activity Books to practice using each feature and as a resource for the students to be able to look back through to remind them of each feature.
