I will be using this test as a pretest and posttest after my Nonfiction Unit.
Part I contains fill-in-the-blank questions with a word bank for the following words: primary source, secondary source, main idea, informational text, evidence, synthesizing, inference, supporting details, text structure, and summarize.
Part II: Students read a short passage and fill in the blank using a word bank for the following text structures: description, compare and contrast, problem and solution, sequence, and cause and effect.
Part III: Students label the examples of the following text features:
map, graph, timeline, label, diagram, heading, bullet, Glossary, index,Table of Contents, special type, caption, photograph
This test was written for fourth grade students but could easily be used in 3rd (read aloud) through middle school.
