Nonfiction Text Structure Reading Passage Task Cards

These high-interest reading task cards will help your students have fun while they learn about the five types of nonfiction text structure! This set includes 20 short reading comprehension passages and includes graphic organizers and comprehension questions for each reading passage. These task cards make it easy to scaffold your instruction and help your students feel comfortable understanding description, sequence, cause and effect, compare and contrast, and problem and solution texts. 

I know how hard it can be to find fun and engaging reading material that also helps your students master the reading standards. Which is why I created this set of task card. Each task card is written in one of the five text structures and will make it easy for your students to identify each type of text structure.

And with the comprehension questions and graphic organizer response options, your students will be able to dig deep into text structure and practice understanding these organizational relationships in the texts they are reading.

HERE'S WHAT YOU GET...

This resource includes 20 nonfiction text structure task cards. Each task card contains a short reading passage (half a page) and includes a variety of response options (graphic organizers and comprehension questions) so you can find the exact format that will work for your students' needs.

Option 1: Just the Reading Passages

• You can print the task cards with just the text. This is a great option if you want to use these informational reading passages to teach something other than non-fiction text structure or if you plan on using them in a traditional task card way.
• There are all three different student response sheets included that you can pair with the task cards.
• There is also a digital version included created Google Slides

Option 2: Reading Passages with Graphic Organizers

• This option needs to be printed front and back.
• One one side students have the reading passage (same as option 1), and on the back there is a graphic organizer that matches the structure of the text.
• This is a great option to help students organize their thinking about the text and to familiarize themselves with the graphic organizer that works for each text structure
• There is also a digital version included created Google Slides

Option 3: Reading Passages and Comprehension Questions

• This option needs to be printed front and back.
• One side students have the reading passage (same as option 1), and on the other side there is a set of text-based comprehension questions and a space for a sticky note so they can "stop-and-jot" while they read the text.
• This is a great option if you want students to identify the text structure on their own and respond to the comprehension questions.
• There is also a digital version included created Google Slides
