Product Description
Your students will enjoy these eight posters and 32 task cards designed to reinforce their understanding of informational text structure in their reading and writing. Each card features a short informational paragraph and a choice of five text structures.  In addition, there are posters for each of the five structures, plus a poster for the features for each text structure type and another poster for the key words of each text structure. These cards and posters work well for all students whether they are English speakers or English Language Learner (ELL) students.

This resource is designed 3rd, but can easily be used by gifted 2nd graders or 4th grade students that need a little support.  I have another resource for Nonfiction Text Structure, but it is written at a 4th and 5th grade level. (Same posters, but the task cards are written at a higher level. You can find that resource here.

What’s Included in This Resource?
***Eight (8.5 x 11) posters that define Text Structure, Features of Text Structure, Key Words Found in Text Structure, Cause and Effect, Compare and Contrast, Description, Sequence, and Problem and Solution
***32 Text Structure Task Cards
(6 Cause and Effect; 7 Compare and Contrast; 6 Description; 6 Problem and Solution; 7 Sequence)
***Answer Key (written on 2 task cards)
***Student Response Sheet (2 per page)
***2 blank task cards (Students can create their own task cards.)

Understanding text structure can help students:
* improve reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension skills
* build their vocabulary by learning new words and meanings
* develop an appreciation for reading

The task cards can be printed in color or gray scale and can be laminated and used again and again. Simply print and cut along the guidelines. It works well to keep them in a baggie. Another option is to hole-punch a corner of each card and put them all on a ring. The answer key is typed into 2 “task cards.” This makes it easy to leave in the center for self-checking and for task card storage.  Keep the answers with the task cards!
