Nonfiction is a huge part of our world and students rarely understand how to read it with a purpose or that it should affect their thinking. This unit was designed for struggling English IV students, but change the articles and it could work with any secondary level.
Help your students discover how to think for themselves and build their own knowledge of the world around them. Suggested reading: Reading Nonfiction (Beers & Probst, 2016).
I have added some materials I use in class with my students as they learn how to use the Nonfiction Signposts as well as an assignment where students are expected to judge an article for its reliability and validity.
