This product it great for the collecting and gathering information and researching. While students research a nonfiction topic they can collect and gather information on the 10 different graphic organizers: Write possible titles, collect information for side bars, collect information for the glossary, find/print/make maps, diagrams, timelines, etc. and one of the most important one a sample on how to take notes using key ideas by making a web and then forming paragraphs so students don't copy from their research.
How do I put it to use?
I use these organizers when students research books and the internet. They may use multiple copies or not use one of the organizers at all. Then they put their sheets in a file folder. Once they are done researching, they determine what information they will use and how they will format and structure their writing.
Collect the folders after writing so students don't lose their sheets. Have students write the main piece of writing using the "Heading" organizer first and then determine if they will add side bars, graphs/charts, timelines, maps, etc.
My class will be publishing their writing on hardcover blank books which will then be displayed in the nonfiction section of our library =)
