This nonfiction guide was designed to help teachers prepare their students for Common Core extended response questions. It was also designed to help teachers make digital connections to literature.
The guide includes a link to an online nonfiction article and supporting photographs.
Six guiding questions are provided that can be the basis for whole class discussion or individual student essay response. Questions focus on context clues, text structure, photographic evidence, and answering questions to demonstrate understanding.
An extension idea is provided in the form of a link that allows students to extend their knowledge about the fire by exploring locations on an interactive map while moving along the fire timeline.
The guide closes with the six guiding questions on three printable pages with plenty of room for written responses. An answer key is also provided.
