THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY
Nonfiction book study; memoir
Nonfiction is an integral part of the CCSS. This is a great book to use when studying nonfiction as it is fairly easy to read; it reads like a novel; is a good transition into nonfiction if your students are fiction lovers.

This is a heartbreaking true story:
"The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is a translation of the French memoir Le Scaphandre et le Papillon by journalist Jean-Dominique Bauby. It describes what his life is like after suffering a massive stroke that left him with a condition called locked-in syndrome. It also details what his life was like (the editor-in-chief of French Elle magazine) before the stroke."
I teach THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY as a TEXTURE TEXT or a CONTEXT TEXT usually alongside THE THEAETETUS.
