Christmas time is often the time of year when emergent readers are able to start putting together those CVC words! What a cheerful and colorful activity to get your emergent readers to practice sounding out simple CVC words...both real and nonsense. These adorable Christmas trees are the perfect bright and colorful graphic to motivate your students during the weeks prior to the winter holidays. Simply print, cut, and laminate and you are ready to go. These are perfect for a whole group sort with your students sitting around you in a circle on the rug, for a small guided reading group activity at your table, for the early finisher, an easy prep activity for your parent volunteer, for an older student tutoring your student, or for a simple activity to send home for additional practice. This activity is so versatile.
Included you will find 42 pine tree cards for your students to use. These cards cover all short vowels. Words and nonsense words all follow the CVC pattern. Simply sort the cards based on whether they are real word or nonsense word. Place the cards under the correct heading card which says "Real Words" or "Nonsense Words". You can also add magnetic tape and have your students sort on a magnetic surface.
