Use Lewis Carroll's classic, and highly engaging, poem to help students master the parts of speech and study poetic devices. This item includes a NC based 6-point lesson plan for teacher use, as well as graphic organizers for group discussion and illustrated poem handouts.
The activity has students work in collaborative groups to determine the parts of speech of Carroll's nonsense words. They will also learn various poetic devices, including Portmanteau, and discuss mood and tone based on the word choice.
The lesson also offers extension activities where students will view different readings and interpretations of the poem to be able to discuss how different mediums create new moods.
