Language arts doesn't always have to be about words! Especially if you have lower-level students who aren't so good with words, or ESOL students who aren't proficient in English, a nonverbal autobiography is a great way for them to show you who they are and what they like. I've used this assignment and rubric with great success. Students bring in their posters and display them throughout the room. Then we have a quiet time where students pretend they're in a museum and quietly study each poster. Grading is quick and easy.
