Wanting something different to do in the classroom other than a powerpoint lecture?
Turn the learning over to the students and have them go through this hyperDoc to teach themselves about Norse Mythology. There are several links to websites, audio, and videos to do the lecturing for you :)
*Formatting is better on original compared to the preview
I used this resource as a google Doc and I shared it with my students in Google Classroom. You can upload the document into your Google Drive and assign with your Google Classroom page or you can email each student this attachment. If you choose to add it to your Google Drive, be sure to upload it as a Google Doc, so that when you assign it to your students in Google Classroom they can edit it. When I assigned it, I chose the "copy for each student" button.
-researching the Anglo Saxons and creating a sketchnote in their notebooks
-reading/listening to the creation myth and identifying what stood out the most to them
-a video on the Nine Worlds and having them identify all and explaining the conncetion
-researching where the dead go when they die
-researching at least 10 Norse gods and briefly explaining who they are
-researching the difference between the Aesir and Vanir
-writing a summary of either the creation, gods, or the nine worlds in their own words
-a group activity where students get into groups of three and read an assigned story to create a draw my life production of their assigned story to present to the class.
-and a final reflection on how Loki keeps popping up in all the stories at the end to see if they were paying attention to the presentations.
This takes about two days of research, one day to read the story with a group and story board after/during reading, and one day to draw it out on white boards and record.
