Students can explore 10 stations over American Geography! This lesson includes 10 stations with a short reading over the geographical feature and a current event article that was found through free newspapers online. Some of the stations also include a map of the geographical feature. I suggest at least two days (50 minutes each) for the activity; plus any time you want to review/debrief.
This activity is a great way to get students to see how geography affects people! This is a great activity to do as a gallery walk to appeal to kinesthetic learners or do as a station activity and have the handouts prepared in a folder for students. I've done it both ways to great results!
The geographical features included: The Appalachian Mountains, The Saint Lawrence River, the Rocky Mountains, the Great Plains, the Grand Canyon, the Mississippi River, the Everglades, Hawaii's volcanoes, the Pacific mountain ranges, and the Great Lakes.
