North American Colony Locators:
This 17 page activity is a fun way to review the thirteen colonies. Students will become colony locators, placing potential settlers with the perfect colony for their family’s needs and wants. After students have read the family’s bio, students will take notes about the family’s needs and wants on the provided “note” page in this packet. Using what they know about the colonies and researching to get more information, they will then fill out a colony brochure or letter to present to the family. They will be persuading the potential settlers to move to the colony that they have chosen for them.
In this packet you will receive the following: 1 teacher instruction page, 8 family bios that can be laminated and printed on card stock, 2 pages that are a front and back template for the brochure, 1 letter template, 1 template for students to use when taking notes, and 1 page with suggested websites for students to use.
This is a great way to put students in the driver seat. They will be reviewing what they already know and finding more information about the thirteen colonies. Students get a feeling of connecting with early settlers, and a deeper understanding as to the reasons the European people came to North America.
