Increase the creativity of your students’ play time, and challenge them to think critically. Use these cards to encourage children to problem-solve with a variety of materials that you already have in your classroom.
This set contains eight sets of cards based on popular primary themes: pets, nature, creepy crawlies, school, transportation, ocean, shapes, and farm. Use the cards separately or all together.
The cards work well in a small-group, center format. Provide your students with a building or free play material and some cards and let them figure out how to build the objects on the cards with the materials you choose. It's challenging to build a frog out of legos or a jellyfish out of pattern blocks!
Children can create with wooden blocks, Legos or Duplos, pipe cleaners, pattern blocks, linker cubes, play dough, place value blocks, Cuisenaire rods, Magnatiles, plastic links, newspaper and masking tape, gear toys, craft sticks, Coinstruction, sand, lincoln logs... the possibilities are limitless!
Students can use the cards independently, or they can be used for group challenges.
For older students, create a challenge. Give them a material and have them work in a group to build something as a team. You can increase the difficulty of the task by making “no talking” one of the rules or setting a time limit.
Extend the projects with post-building writing activities!
