Product Description

This set of worksheets is designed to give beginning band students practice with two key early literacy skills: note naming and fingering translation. Students must write the note name name above the staff, then use the diagram next to or below the staff to indicate the fingering. Each worksheet has 25 notes, an assortment of the first seven notes beginners usually learn.

Each instrument has its own specific worksheet, customized to ensure a meaningful and dedicated assignment for all students. Some notes about individual instruments:

  • Oboe - While some methods introduce oboes at a fifth apart from the rest of the band, this worksheet practices the unison notes (concert A, B-flat, C, D, E-flat, F, and G - same as the flute).
  • Horn - The horn notes are a fifth apart from the rest of the band (concert E, F, G, A, B-flat, C, and D). A "T" for trigger is included on the fingering portion for double horns; this may be ignored for students playing on a single horn.
  • Euphonium - Two versions of the euphonium worksheet are included; one for 3-valve instruments and one for 4-valve instruments. Use whichever one matches your student's instrument. While there is no treble clef version of this worksheet available, a TC euphonium player can easily use the trumpet worksheet.
  • Tuba - Two versions of the euphonium worksheet are included; one for 3-valve instruments and one for 4-valve instruments. Use whichever one matches your student's instrument.
  • Percussion - Each note is provided with a small section of keyboard, where they can mark where on the keyboard that note is found.

There is an identical Note Name and Fingering Practice B available in my store as well. It is conceptually the same, but with a different ordering of the 25 notes. It would be great for A and B versions of an assessment, a retake opportunity, or just extra practice!
