This is a graphic organizer to help students take
notes while reading fiction. Although this organizer was developed for middle school students, this organizer can be used with any grade level based on student needs and readiness.
What makes this organizer different is that the second page requires students to look at text through a different lens. Students will analyze the characters’ mindsets, as well as how the primary mindsets impact the events, relationships, and conflicts within the story. This activity lends itself to self reflection, connections, and discussions for deeper understanding.
The final page of this activity can be used as a class opener, homework assignment, personal reflection, weekly assessment, discussion starter, group activity, exit task, or any other way you come up with to encourage critical thinking.
*Although all activities are written for middle school age kids, please use your discretion as to whether or not activities are appropriate for your students. Due to variations in printers, you may need to select “scale to fit” when you print the activities.
