Students often ask, "Do we need to copy that down?" They may not understand what should be included in their notes. This template can help student organize information for the purpose of comprehension. Additionally, when a student writes their own notes, they are being active learners vs. passive note copiers. This template can be thought of as training wheels for note-taking. The teacher may decide when a student no longer needs the template, or the student may decide they longer need it. Students may also find that they have thought of ways to customize note-taking to best serve their individual needs.
This template can also serve as: an assessment tool, home-work, center, catalyst for conversation, or as a check-off evidence piece for a larger assignment.
