Note Taking: Turning Readings into Writing was designed as a writing assignment that could easily be used with any appropriate social studies, science or content area text. It concentrates on organizing notes from reading selections and puts them in outline form which transfers easily to a paragraph.
The selection on the early history of American Literature provides the background information necessary to complete the organizing outline. It should be given along with the Organizing Outline as the first day of a two-day assignment. However, many reading selections could be used in place of the one on American Lit.
This handout should be distributed along with the reading selection. Students should be instructed to complete the outline after reading the selection. It is important to review the outline with the student before assigning a paragraph based on the outline as the second day of the two-day assignment
ALTERNATE NOTE TAKING OUTLINE
In some cases, this alternate outline form may better fit assigned selections. It is especially useful when working with biographies or news stories
ALTERNATE NOTE TAKING OUTLINE - instruction sheet
This teacher guide can be used as an overhead or computer projection to instruct in the use of the Alternate Note Taking Outline. It could also be given as a handout.
Take Note - Write On is the second in the Write On series from CK Teaching Aids.
