These are the notes that I use for Solving Two, Three, and Four Step Equations. I have found that using the guiding questions "Who's the Big Guy?", "Who's Lonely?" and "How do we get x by himself?" work wonders when trying to teach low ability math students how to solve multi-step equations.
Through these guided and scaffolded notes, your students will get 8 example problems to solve with you and the rest of the class before attempting 12 problems on their own.
The notes include two of each type already solved using the guiding questions. Two of each type are also unsolved for your students to work on by themselves or in pairs or however you'd like! I left the guided questions on these slides as well to help students begin to get used to asking themselves these questions when solving their multi-step equations!
There are 12 practice problems included for the students to complete in class or printed out as homework. The answers are also included on the last slide!
