Close reading has become an important part of most teachers’ reading program. Notice and Note by Kylene Beers and Robert E. Probst has become the go to source for many. My school, like many others, is referring to Notice & Note By Kylene Beers and Robert E. Probst for close reading strategies.
So I created the posters, bookmarks and journal pages found in this bundle for our teachers to use with our program based on those found in Notice & Note.
*Poster Set - There are 4 different designs for each of the six signposts. Each signpost has a different road sign graphic and background. The four designs are very similar. The all have the definition of the signpost, the question the readers should ask themselves about what they noticed, and what this may help them discover. Two have a stop sign in the middle to draw attention to the question readers should be asking themselves while the other two have words. Two also have a cute reader graphic at the bottom.
*Bookmarks - Each bookmark has the six signposts on it with the matching background and signpost from the poster. The signpost is stated as well as the question they should be thinking about. There are 4 bookmarks per page. Print and laminate them for each student.
*Journal Pages - We wanted our students to be able to record their thoughts and discoveries as they were reading, but how to do that. I designed these pages, so the student could use the one specific to the signpost they found, therefore there are 6 different journal pages (actually 12, two versions of each!) Copy a set of each and place them where the kids can easily access them. Then as the kids need one, they can simple come get one and add it to their own folder or journal for that book.
Note** The background chevron pattern didn't come though on the preview pictures of the posters.
