How to teach Close reading? I HIGHLY recommend reading Notice and Note: Strategies for Close Reading by Beers and Probst. After reading this gem, I became empowered to tackle CLOSE reading in a way that made sense to me. No more “beating a text to death”. Instead I wanted to get students to authentically discuss text.
In the book, the authors suggest highlighting six main signposts that help students begin to authentically talk about what they are reading. I created a set of coordinating posters (anchor charts) and a student handout. Included in this set are:Contrasts and ContradictionsWords of the WiserAgain and AgainAha MomentMemory MomentTough QuestionEnjoy!
