This fifteen page activity unit includes an Introductory lesson to explain the meaning of the word "signpost" (Notice and Note, Beers and Probst). The purpose of the first worksheet and lesson is to invite an opportunity to explore this key word with younger students.
Next, I've included a Signpost application lesson/activity based upon the widely available story entitled "The Country Mouse and the City Mouse". This initial activity is heavily scaffolded to support early intermediate grade readers in their first lesson on Signpost application.
Most importantly, I've created an amazingly effective set of handouts to enable you to quickly implement student centered activities. I've featured a place for the students to "note" their reactions to the text after they've noticed and discussed the signposts in their reading. All six of the fiction Signposts (Beers and Probst) are here! C & C, Aha Moment, Tough Question, Words of the Wiser, Again and Again, Memory Moment! These pages will invite endless opportunities for students to practice and apply their skills. These handouts can be used to encourage students to work independently, in small groups or with your entire class. These are reproducible handouts that can be used with any picture book or story.
This is an invaluable resource for building entire lessons around the Notice and Note Fiction signpost strategies at the elementary level!
