This is the 6th lesson in the book Notice & Note- Close Reading Strategies by Beers & Probst. This lesson is straight from their book but is modified in PPT format and has lesson notes at the bottom of each slide, which guide you through what to say and do with your students.
What is the close reading approach all about? It is a reading routine which provides students with “look fors” as they are reading and encourages them to reread a portion of a text to answer a question about the meaning of the text
When do students apply these skills? As students read a text for the lesson and when you send them off for independent reading
Why should I teach my students these strategies? It promotes student engagement in a text and helps students determine meaning and theme in literary texts, which contribute to student comprehension of complex texts
